The Suffolk sub-district of the SDD begins at Gilmerton and travels westward through Yadkin and
into the Great Dismal Swamp. Once the mainline clears the western edge of the
swamp it enters Suffolk, VA. In Suffolk the Franklin Sub splits from the
mainline and heads westward to Franklin, VA. A small yard is located at the
junction. The mainline turns north-west and begins the 60 mile section of
tangent track from Suffolk, through Windsor, Ivor, Wakefield, and into
Petersburg, VA, where the Suffolk sub ends at the Poe station and the Alta
Vistasub begins.
